Cornwall Council has confirmed that its gritters will be heading out this evening on “precautionary salting”.
The gritters will be out across the county from 8pm this evening (Tuesday 8) and will cover all major routes across Cornwall.
The council sent out a Tweet earlier today warning motorists to drive with care.
It read: “Gritters will be out from 20:00 across the county on our precautionary salting routes. Please drive with care #CornwallWinter.”
It comes as parts of Devon and Cornwall had seen snow over the weekend and were being warned of icy conditions as the cold snap continues.
Snow began falling on Thursday night last week over parts of Dartmoor and eastern Cornwall, leaving sections of the moors white – and more snow fell across some parts of the region over the weekend.
The snow, coupled with a marked drop in temperature, has been catching some unsuspecting motorists out.
The Met Office had warned icy conditions are likely to persist until at least today but temperatures do now look set to rise slightly over the coming days.
