Police cordon in St Austell following early hours assault – updates

An area of St Austell has been cordoned off by police following an assault which left a man injured in the early hours of this morning (January 15).

Devon and Cornwall Police were called out to Poltair Park at 3am following reports of the incident.

It has been confirmed that a local man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

A police spokesperson said: “Officers, an ambulance and members of the public helped to assist an injured male.

“A local male has been arrested for the offence.

“Inquiries are ongoing and further information will follow.”

The police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the assault.

People in the town have told CornwallLive that an area near Poltair Park, the home ground of AFC St Austell, has been taped off.

One eyewitness said: “Alleyway behind St Austell Football Club has been taped off by police.

“Forensic officers appear to be out with cameras.”
