‘Slick’ Cornwall restaurant with ‘unreal food’ among UK’s best spots for oysters

North Street Kitchen in Fowey was included among 22 other spots in a list from The Good Food Guide, and was the only representative in the county.

Introducing the list, the publication said: “Whether you know your Carlingfords from your Cumbraes or enjoy the sense of occasion that comes with a platter of oysters and a glass of Champagne, here’s our line-up of the freshest and the best across Britain.”

The full list of the UK’s best spots for oysters can be found on The Good Food Guide website here.

Why is North Street Kitchen among the UK’s best spots for oysters?

North Street Kitchen was highlighted by The Good Food Guide for its “seasonality and sustainability”.

It added on the restaurant’s profile: “Porthilly rock oysters au naturel are a reliably popular draw; otherwise, kick off with brown crab rarebit or fried whiting with curried mayo.

“Main dishes might take in Cornish sole with tomatoes and garlic butter, gurnard with runner beans or mackerel with green sauce.

“There are usually a few veggie plates, too – perhaps braised courgettes with goat’s curd.”

On its website, North Street Kitchen shares that most of the fish used in their dishes caught by chef Jordan Davies, just a few miles away from the actual restaurant.

Couple Ethan and Hazel Friskney-Bryer took over the eatery in February 2024 and have “retained the relaxed feel to this converted boat shed”.
