Strictly Come Dancing viewers slam ‘worst show yet’ as couples dance to BBC theme songs

Strictly Come Dancing celebs and their professional partners have been dancing to BBC theme tunes tonight – but some punters are hating it. This week, the BBC is celebrating 100 years of service, and the talent dance show is going all out to do its bit.

To celebrate in style, each couple left in for the Week five show is performing under the theme of various iconic BBC programmes, ranging from Doctor Who to EastEnders.

A spokeswoman for the show said: “Strictly Come Dancing celebrates 100 years of the BBC. The show opens with an epic group number that sees the Strictly professionals and judges gatecrash some of the biggest BBC flagship shows. Also tonight, for the first time ever, our couples perform to either an iconic BBC theme tune or dance in tribute to one of the BBC’s most-loved services. It promises to be an unforgettable night of celebration and dance.”

However, fans of the show have been less than impressed with this week’s choice of music and certainly haven’t been afraid to express their discontent. Many viewers have taken to Twitter to make their views known – and they certainly haven’t minced their words.

@I_Ron_Brew tweeted: “This music isn’t even danceable this week! Worst show yet #StrictlyComeDancing #StrictlyComeDancing #BBC100.”

PollyCracker92 said: “I appreciate the sentiment but this episode of Strictly is going to get really annoying real quickly.” Ben-Christopher was also not that keen on the idea, tweeting: “Whoever approved them all dancing to BBC TV Show theme tunes needs to be suspended and put under investigation.”

Empress was even more brutal when she wrote: “The theme for tonight isn’t working for me. Sorry.” Others said the theme felt forced and contrived and was not what Strictly should be about.

One said: “It’s an absolute cringefest tonight. It feels forced, contrived, a proper BBC love in. Embarrassing.” Kerry agreed, tweeting: “I’m really not enjoying tonight’s show!! What a ridiculous idea to dance to theme tunes.”

G1llyW1lly added his voice to the chorus of anger at tonight’s show, tweeting: “Dear BBC, just because you’ve been going for 100 years, it doesn’t mean you can mess with Strictly. Leave it alone.”

SuziCarrigan was even more brutal: “Strictly is reminding me of a really bad school talent show tonight! I can’t wait for normality to resume next week!”
